Training provider overview
The Premier League (PL) is a limited company whose 20 shareholders are the most successful professional Football Clubs in England. It has responsibility for administering the football played at PL clubs, including the football of young players. Each Club operates, for the purpose of youth development, a Football Academy licensed by the PL under standards specified by in the Youth Development Rules. The PL’s education function sits within the Football Department and is headed by the Chief Football Officer. It has the overall responsibility for all areas relating to player development in academies, from U9 to U21.
Each club can offer an apprenticeship to a select number of players based on their potential to become a professional player.
