Entry requirements

Set by employer. Typically a minimum of:

  • 2 A levels grades A to C) or equivalent
  • 5 GCSE grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) including a minimum grade B in English and maths or equivalent
  • level 4 construction design and build technician
  • TCIAT (Architectural Technician) status
  • HNC or HND in construction and the built environment or equivalent qualifications and relevant experience
What apprentices will learn
  • how to identify, assess and challenge client requirements and user factors, evaluate resources and assess environmental impact
  • identify and assess client and user requirements and conduct feasibility studies so that the design reflects client needs
  • assess, advise and meet statutory regulations and legal constraints
  • prepare, present and agree proposals for project briefs, make recommendations, develop programmes and develop detailed designs for construction
  • manage project handover and completion and assemble operations and maintenance manuals for the building’s end users

Apprentices must have achieved the following before taking their end-point assessment:

  • level 2 English and maths (GCSE grades 9 to 4 or A* to C)
  • level 4 industry certificates in site safety plus site managers’ safety training scheme and site environmental awareness training scheme
  • BSc(Hons) construction engineering management or
  • BSc(Hons)/BA(Hons) architectural technology or equivalent design and construction discipline level 6 qualification
Professional registration
  • Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT)
  • Chartered Institute of Building(CIOB).
