Candidates will usually have:
- grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and maths
- level 2 or above (or equivalent) in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subject

Before taking their end-point assessment, apprentices must achieve level 2 English and maths (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C).
- Professional registration

Successful apprentices will be able to register as an engineering technician (EngTech) as defined by the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC).
