Entry requirements

Set by employer. Candidates will usually be expected to have a postgraduate degree level (level 7) qualification in an area of disciplinary specialism

What apprentices will learn
  • developing innovative forms of teaching for students working towards higher learning
  • development of the art or science of teaching through research and professional practices
  • assessment methodologies
  • supporting learning for diverse groups of learners
  • operating as a principal investigator
  • managing research projects and budgets
  • identifying research opportunities

Before taking their end-point assessment apprentices must have achieved level 2 English and maths (equivalent to GCSE grades 9 to 4 or A* to C). Apprentices with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, must have achieved entry level 3 English and maths.

Professional registration

Apprentices who have completed their apprenticeship will be eligible for recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
